Building Professional Relationships: How to get the best from the student/supervisor relationship
Ms Karin Blak: Relationship Therapist and Trainer
Building professional relationships is an essential part of your career. The relationship with your supervisors is very important in developing your academic skills, and if you are able to manage this professionally, it can be empowering and supportive.
Good communication and negotiation skills are vital for managing situations with your supervisor, and for other collaborative relationships with work and study colleagues, even in your personal life.
This workshop will help you develop the skills you need for these relationships to become a teamwork experience. Exploring communication and relationship models will help you prepare and approach teamwork positively and constructively, enabling a considered outcome and the best chance of a win/win result. By the end of the workshop you will:-
- know something about relationship dynamics
- have basic conflict management skills
- have basic negotiation skills
- know how to develop a ‘partnership’ approach
- have great skills applicable to working as part of a team
This workshop is open to any student currently registered on a research degree programme at the University of Northampton. Further information is available from Simone Apel (simone.apel@northampton.ac.uk; 01604 893418).
